The conference, which is being held between the 12th and 13th of October in Manchester, will bring together practitioners and academics from all relevant disciplines to share their knowledge, discuss problems, and to facilitate further improvements in optimisation techniques for engineering applications.
MMI’s Charles Hendry, based in Perth, prepared a paper for the event, which discusses the importance of Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimisation in the application and maintenance of Passive Fire Protection on structural steel. Charles’ colleague, Dr. Rui Sun, will present the paper on the morning of the 13th, and via case studies will illustrate how GA is able to carry out a robust optimisation, leading to a reduction in PFP without compromising safety.
