Dr. Evans and Dr. Sun will discuss Passive Fire Protection (PFP) for offshore installations at the meeting, which The Institution of Structural Engineers will host on April 7th in Aberdeen. A synopsis of the presentation is as follows:
Many types of structure are vulnerable to fire, especially within the oil and gas industry. Offshore, the upper sections of the jacket, support frames, modules and deck structures, accommodation and process equipment; onshore, equipment structures, pipe racks, vessels and vessel supports. A considerable measure of protection can be gained by the use of Passive Fire Protection (PFP) arrangements, which limit the heat transfer from a fire event to the structure. This presentation outlines the process and techniques for the design, supply and integrity management of PFP across the asset life cycle, with the emphasis on hazard identification, materials selection, optimisation and maintenance.
The meeting will take place at 6pm at Jurys Inn, Union Square, Guild St, Aberdeen AB11 5RG (refreshments will be served from 5.30 pm).
The meeting is free and open to members and non-members of the Institution of Structural Engineers, however priority will be given to members of the Institution of Structural Engineers.
