Energy and services company Centrica has won the Operational Integrity Award at the Offshore Safety Awards with a Dropped Objects Prevention Scheme (DROPS) Project supported by MMI Engineering, a division of Geosyntec.
Introduced by Oil & Gas UK last year as a successor to the Oil & Gas Industry Safety Awards, the Offshore Safety Awards were held on August 23rd at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
The event serves as a celebration of the people and companies that strive to help make the UK Continental Shelf one of the safest places to work in the Oil & Gas industry globally.
Award categories include Safety Leadership, Workforce Engagement, Safety Representative of the Year, Operational Integrity, Innovation in Safety, and Sharing and Learning.
The Operational Integrity Award is for an individual or team that has delivered increased efficiency or understanding of risk by putting in place sensible and proportionate risk management solutions. This year, the award was won by Centrica, specifically Bob Taylor and the Asset Integrity DROPS Campaign Team.
MMI Engineering advised and witnessed first-hand the team’s efforts and commitment in ensuring safety onboard their offshore assets. From the start of November 2016 up to a shutdown at the start of June 2017, MMI Engineering has been prioritizing work scopes for the DROPS Campaign Team. Following the shutdown, MMI Engineering has continued to provide support and will do so until the end of the year as follows:
- Surveying areas of the platform(s) ahead of the DROPS team and developing anomaly reports for the DROPS Team to action i.e. developing a back-log of work
- Tracking progress of the DROPS team, and ultimately, demonstrating the reduction in risk posed by dropped objects as a result of the DROPS team’s actions
- Providing onshore and offshore structural engineering support to the DROPS team where applicable
- Identifying and reporting activities/changes that require Management of Change action
