Ten members of MMI Engineering’s Warrington office all had a very successful time at the Asics Greater Manchester Marathon last weekend.
In almost perfect conditions for running, the undoubted highlight of the day was MMI’s Team A who were third home in the 4-person relay but first corporate team and thus won the MLP Law Corporate Challenge. The team was lead off by Tim Jones, who handed over to Rob English, recently returning from injury, who passed the baton onto Kevin Malone, and it was left to Euan Stoddart to bring the team home, crossing the finish line outside Manchester United FC’s Old Trafford Stadium in an impressive total time of 3 hours and 1 minute.
MMI is keen to promote good levels of activity amongst its employees, and the focus of the second 4-person relay team was purely on participation, as the team included a number of new runners. The team comprising Sean Malkeson, Gang Dong, Lyndsay Duffill and Dave Sanderson all ran strongly to beat their predicted total time by almost 15 minutes, finishing in an agonising 14 seconds over four hours.
Also running in MMI colours were Andy Nelson and Paul Gardner, who completed their eighth and third marathons respectively. Both eventually crossed the line after 26.2 miles with personal best times of 3 hours and 19 minutes and 4 hours and 10 minutes.
The team event was a great success, with all the runners enjoying the fantastic support lining the streets of Greater Manchester. The post-race celebrations included talk of returning next year to defend MMI’s title and improve upon individual times!
